Smaller sizes (up to 9 months) have no shoulders and a cut-away neck line to keep little ones as cool as possible and so ScratchSleeves are easy for parents to use. Perfect solution to abrasive cotton mitts
My 4-month old constantly wants to scratch at her eczema. These sleeves not only prevent her nails from getting to her skin, but because the outside of the mitt part is silk, rather than cotton, there is way less abrasion to her skin when she tries to scratch. The mitts are also thick because the silk is sewn onto the mitts, rather than the mitts being made only out of silk. So sharp baby nails can't destroy the silk from the inside of the mitt.
My baby has been wearing the sleeves constantly for about 2 weeks. The silk mitts show some signs of wear, but it's not surprising given that my baby, every chance she gets, rubs her eczema with the mitts. She also made a pair of Goumi cotton Mitts look 20 years old after only 2 days of wear!
For care, I suggest hand washing, which is very easy - a basin of lukewarm water, a few drops of free and clear detergent, agitate for a few minutes, then rinse and lay flat to dry - in order to preserve the silk mitts.
